Sierra Mathews
Sierra is our intellectual child. Sierra uses her brain to beat her opponents. I call Sierra my Tiny Beanie Baby. Sierra is small and very fragile. Sierra does not like physical activities. Sierra is antisocial when she wants to be. Sierra often tells us she doesn't belong in our family. Sierra is our Peach Black Child (a step up from being our white child). Sierra has a good heart and is very gentle with her friend Gabriella, who happens to be blind.
In 2007 Sierra continued with her acting career. She was in three plays this year and was given the lead in all three plays. Sierra also entered two poetry contests and won first place in one and second place in the other. Sierra continues to practice her dramatic roles at home. She is definitely our most dramatic child. Sierra continues to work on her singing and dance, as well. She is a better actress than singer and dancer.
In 2006 Sierra continued with her desire to be and actress. Sierra was in two plays (Hip Hop Aesop and A Fairly Grim Tale. She continued her trend of not participating in any sports. Sierra continued to be lazy and not like to clean. Sierra continued to make us laugh with her fun notes she slipped under our door. Sierra got better with her singing (she still can't sing but she can now at least carry a tune).
In 2005 has shown us that she is now our black child. No longer white or peach black just plain old black. Still not as dark as I am she likes to point out but black nonetheless. Sierra also showed us just how lazy she is. We've always said she was our lazy child, but she wanted us to know just how far that extended. Sierra does not like to do any physical activities so this year I had to sign her up for an exercise class, Sierra does not like to study for any of her tests so her straight As went to Bs so I had to sit down and make sure she studied for all her tests. She doesn't like to clean so, we had to make her not only do her chores around the house but her siblings' chores as well until she started doing her own. Sierra has also taken up acting over the past two years. She did her first play in 2004. She has decided she wants to be an actress.
In 2003 Sierra took piano lessons (Sierra really wants her grandfather's baby grand piano). Sierra also played softball and she took swimming lessons. Sierra had decided she is going to be a star so she is in search of her claim to fame. Sierra has become more dramatic over the past year. She has also become bossier. Sierra likes playing school and she has to be reminded by her 2nd grade teacher that she is not the teacher. Sierra had a friend in school call her a psycho. This is very funny because sometimes Sierra does act psycho. For Sierra's 7th birthday she had a 50s party. Sierra and her friends dressed up in 50s outfits and hula hoped, danced, had a bubble gum blowing contest and ate hamburgers, chips and drank milk shakes. Sierra has done well this year with facing her fears, she even went on more rides at Disney this year.
2002 has brought about a new Sierra. She is facing all of her fears and overcoming them. Her fears are not things like monsters or the dark - she has never been afraid of that. Her fears are more "real"...getting hurt while playing, scary rides, etc. It all started last year when she played indoor soccer and floor hockey. Then it continued at Disney when she rode a roller coaster and went on the Tower of Terror ride. Now Sierra is playing T-ball in preparation for softball next year.
Sierra does well in school (except for cutting with scissors!). Sierra is very analytical, like her father. We have decided that Sierra is a combination of Nana, Kevin and me. Sierra is 70% Nana, 20% Kevin and 10% me. Sierra has Nana's evil personality, Nana's bossy ways, Nana's nurturing ways for people she likes and of course Nana's eyes, hair and size. Sierra has Kevin's intelligence, analytical ways, teasing ways, love of meat and disposition towards people. From me, Sierra inherited stubbornness and liking to be alone at times.
Sierra loves to sing and dance, although she does neither well. Sierra doesn't care where she is or who she is with, if she wants to sing or dance that is what she will do. She loves to sing while using the bathroom, especially if it is a public bathroom. Sierra calls her brother and sister her siblings.
Some fun things Sierra has done while growing up.
- One morning Sierra went to wake Alexander up when he was a baby. Sierra always liked to go in and check on Alexander when she woke up in the morning. During the night, Alexander had taken his pamper off and when Sierra walked in to check on him, Alexander peed on her. Sierra was very upset and told me I should spank Alexander.
- One day Kevin was giving all the kids wedgies and when he got to Sierra a penny fall out of her butt. We asked Sierra why there was a penny up her butt and she said because she wanted one up there. We decided it was best if we didn't ask anymore questions.
- When we went to Mexico they picked Sierra to stand on stage and help be the MC.
- Sierra sang Down Down Baby for Karaoke in Mexico.
- Kevin made a mistake and hurt Sierra. Kevin told her sorry and Sierra told him Sorry Doesn't Help Anything.
- When we went to Disney for Alyssa's birthday Sierra told Cinderella she was going to marry a boy when she grew up and move into Cinderella's castle.
- Sierra was featured on a Little Tikes Workbench box. The box was sold nationally and in Canada.
- Sierra's father told her that she wasn't allowed to talk with boys. Sierra told Kevin she could talk with boys whenever she wanted to.
- Sierra came and told us she wishes her brother and sister could be normal like her. Sierra said she was our normal child. This is very funny, because Sierra is anything but normal.
- For Sierra's 6th birthday we went to Disney. Sierra had a wonderful time. She got to eat at Cinderella's Castle and ride on the Winnie the Pooh ride while sitting with the Winnie the Pooh character.
- For Xmas, Sierra wanted to carol our neighbors (we didn't let her).
- Sierra slipped a note up under our door to let her father know how he was ruining her life – The note basically said he was making her learn all this stuff and she was going to grow up to be a scientist and realize her life was ruined because of this. Sierra wanted her father to stop trying to teach her stuff or he was going to ruin her life.
- Sierra acted in two plays.
- Sierra tried out for an Oscar Mayer commercial (she didn't get it).
Who is Sierra Nicole Mathews? Sierra is our nurturing, misunderstood, perfect example of a middle child daughter. She is strange, fun loving and very intelligent. If Sierra were born in any position other than middle something would be very wrong. Kevin and I are both blessed that she was brought into our lives. However we do think that she will be our problem child.
