Alyssa Mathews

Alyssa is a child that talks more than she thinks. If there is a question to be asked she will ask it. Alyssa doesn't really want to know the answer to any of questions she asks, she just wants to ask them. Alyssa talks in her sleep. Alyssa is our little Social Butterfly. She makes friends anywhere she goes. She loves to play and have fun. Kevin and I have decided that Alyssa has a combination of my personality and her grandmother Josette's personality. Alyssa is very prissy, she talks a lot, she likes to be in control, she takes care of Sierra and Alexander and she loves to clean (we will wake up at 2:00 in the morning and Alyssa will be in the bathroom cleaning up). Alyssa loves to model and likes to dance. Alyssa is very dramatic. Alyssa has more of my personality than she does of Josette's.

In 2007 Alyssa won 1st place in the Mentor Junior Olympics for 100 m Hurdles and Running Long Jump. Her relay team also won 1st place for the 4/1 Relay. Alyssa went on to win 1st place in the Lake County Junior Olympics for 100 m hurdles and her relay team won 1st place for the 4/1 Relay. Alyssa also won a spot in the Lake County Boating class. She had to write an essay and was selected to learn how to operate eight different boats. After completing the class received a boating license. Alyssa also switched to Fast Pitch softball this year and different ok as a 3rd Baseman and Batter.

In 2006 Alyssa graduated from 6th grade. Alyssa won for voted the fastest girl in her school by her peers. Alyssa won to represent her school in the State 6th grade poetry contest. During 2006 she also played softball and came in second place running the 400-meter in the Lake County Junior Olympics. Alyssa is almost as tall as her mother. She wears the same size shoes as her mother and she is one clothing size smaller than her mother.

In 2005 Alyssa continued to play softball, be in Girl Scouts, and she started to do a lot better in school. Alyssa is still very outgoing, enthusiastic and fun loving. For a while she did try to take on a shy personality, but she out grew that and is back to her fun loving out going self. She has gotten very tall and grown a lot over the past two years. Alyssa still enjoys modeling. She hasn't done a lot of modeling lately, but has decided she wants to be a model or a fashion designer. Alyssa's gym teacher has also recommended her to try out for our city's Junior Olympics for track and field. Alyssa is a pretty fast runner but she has never raced against anyone, before, we will have to see how that turns out.

In 2003 Alyssa took swimming, softball and she is in the Brownies. Alyssa also took Ice Skating lessons. For Alyssa's 9th birthday she got to go to a hotel with her mother and father. They stayed at a hotel in Macedonia and went to an indoor amusement park where they played Laser Tag, Mini Golf, Roller Skated, played video games and went to the batting cage. Alyssa had a wonderful time. School is beginning to get harder for Alyssa. Alyssa has to focus more on studying and paying attention in class. Alyssa is doing ok in school. Alyssa is going through a phase where she wants to be shy and doesn't want to do anything in front of a lot of people. We are waiting for her to grow out of this stage.

In 2002 Alyssa is taking swim lessons, and participates in Brownies and Softball. She likes physical activities. Alyssa really wants to take horseback riding (it costs a lot, so I don't think she will be able to take it). Alyssa is also very easy to scare. Her sister Sierra and her father like to tease her and scare her about different things. Alyssa does well in math. Alyssa is also excellent with puzzles; at the age of five she completed a puzzle with 1000 pieces.

For Alyssa's birthday this year (2003) she is not having a party. Instead, Kevin and I will be taking her to a hotel in Cleveland...just the three of us. Alyssa will get to pick the hotel and choose what we do that evening. The other children will stay home with their grandparents.

For Alyssa's birthday in 2002 (her seventh) she had a slumber party. There were eleven girls and Alyssa at the party. The girls sang karaoke, had a pillow fight, made pizza, decorated jeans and their own cakes and stayed up talking and watching movies until about 2:30 in the morning.

Some fun things Alyssa has done while growing up.

    Various Years:
    • Kevin and Alyssa would put on skits for us.
    • Alyssa gave Sierra the nickname Sam because she said Sierra sounds like a boy when she talks.
    • Alyssa gave me the nickname Burnie because she said I burn things.
    At Four Years Old:
    • Alyssa asked her father to buy her flowers and a diamond ring. Her father bought her the flowers and Diana (her Lady) bought her the diamond ring (not real, of course) for Christmas.
    At Five Years Old:
    • We went to Mexico for vacation and Alyssa rode an Electric Bull, was in a Pepsi drinking contest, and an Arm Wrestling contest. Alyssa also sang Head Shoulders Knees and Toes for Karaoke while in Mexico.
    • Alyssa was on the cover of a Toy Catalog.
    At Six Years Old:
    • We went to Disney for Alyssa's birthday and she had breakfast at Cinderella's Castle. The whole time Alyssa and Sierra kept saying they couldn't believe they were eating in Cinderella's Castle.
    At Seven Years Old:
    • We went to Toronto and Baltimore for family vacations and Alyssa rode an Elephant while in Toronto.
    • Alyssa had a birthday party at the YMCA and the theme was the Olympics. There were four separate categories and Alyssa won three gold medals and one silver medal (Gold in Rope Swinging, Robe Climbing and the Water Run; Silver in the Crab Walk).
    At Eight Years Old:
    • Alyssa is doing very well in the 3rd grade. Alyssa got all "As" and one "B" on her report card. Alyssa is doing better with paying attention in school and her reading comprehension has gone way up.
    • Alyssa isn't into puzzles as much as she was before. Alyssa really like to watch TV and play.
    • Alyssa really wants a dog for Christmas. She asked every Santa she saw for a dog. Alyssa told her grandmother that if there were a real Santa, he would get her a dog for Christmas. Alyssa did not get a dog for Christmas and she was very disappointed. I don't think Alyssa still believes in Santa, but I think she is playing along.
    At Ten Years Old:
    • Alyssa really wants a dog for Christmas. She asked every Santa she saw for a dog. Alyssa told her grandmother that if there were a real Santa, he would get her a dog for Christmas. Alyssa did not get a dog for Christmas and she was very disappointed. I don't think Alyssa still believes in Santa, but I think she is playing along.
    • Alyssa got a dog in 2005. The dog's name was Simba. I use the past tense because we only had the dog for two weeks. The dog was great, he was only two months old. He rarely barked, he was house broken and wasn't wild at all. The only draw back was Sierra was afraid of him and Kevin did like him. So after two weeks, we decided the dog had to go. Alyssa was a little upset, but very mature about the way she handled having to lose the dog. We are very proud of her and we made sure we told her.
    At Twelve Years Old:
    • Alyssa got to go to Paris. Paris is her dream place she wanted to go to. Alyssa had a great time and got to do almost everything she dreamed of there including, shopping, seeing the Eiffel Tower and eating amazing food.
    • Alyssa went to Junior High.
    • Alyssa won a poetry contest for the 6th graders at her school.
    • Alyssa won second place in the Lake County Junior Olympics.

Who is Alyssa Marie Mathews? Alyssa is our most loving child. She is caring, giving, and kind and Kevin and I are both glad she was our first introduction to parenthood. Alyssa was a perfect baby and she is a wonderful child and neither of us would trade her for the world.
